The band members of Advents were found based on a back and forth dialogue between two friends Eimann and Shawin on WhatsApp around the time of January 2017. It was in a desperate search to seek out members who were likely interested and eager to perform for an easy-going high school gig held prior. Therefore, Eimann reached out to Nadree, the current bassist of the band which led to a ripple effect whereby he suggested his cousin, a passionate jazz enthusiast, to play drums.

Fast forward many months, and in late 2017, the band officially agreed to meet up in a studio for band practice and jammed for the very first time. This gathering took everyone by a welcoming surprise as musical chemistry was felt, as well as a warm reciprocal kinship between band members alike. A tune was created unintentionally from the session and now can be known as their emotive first single, ‘Television Dream’.

As the spark ignited, the band’s name followed pursuit and was taken from the first studio where the gathering was held by the name of ’The Advent’. All of their finished singles were easy-going yet masterfully recorded and mixed by the pleasure of Shawin and his MacBook devices. Through tedious trial and error, Shawin’s command in mixing programs paid off as the input of songs gradually became easier while certain producing techniques and nuances became clearer to grasp. Thus, the outcomes can be now seen in Advents’ discography.

The band has a very 80s influenced alternative pop/rock vibe and has distanced from claiming a concrete genre to emphasize versatility in producing, as opposed to sticking to one certain grouping. As of currently, Advents has independently fabricated a 6 track EP was released in late April of 2020, titled “Clueless and Immature” including pre-loved singles, tweaked and remastered in a new light. In the making, each song was inspired by different artists and bands adapted from many genres. In addition, a finished music video of the remastered version of Television Dream was released a few weeks in anticipation of the EP.

Advents’ Spotify has been the band's hallmark of success so far with streams doubled from 2019, amassing over 63.6k in 2020 after the release of their EP.

Television Dream

As stated previously, Television Dream was put together by mere accident while jamming for the first time in late 2017. Specifically, the main tune and melody for said song. The lyrics have many philosophical references taken into account but these are more prominently shown in the upcoming music video. It is also noted that, the essence directly relates to being let down by someone who you look up to, although there’s plenty of room for self interpretation by avid listeners.

Slow Dance

Slow Dance started from a sample of a demo done by Shawin who was newly introduced to a music software (Logic). Each band member agreed to work on it further after finishing Television Dream. This song explains the struggles of a failing relationship that he went through prior and how most people do not seem to acknowledge the fact that some relationships aren’t meant to be despite having a strong faith in one’s love.

Bad Sense of Time

In contrast to the previously made demo, Bad Sense of Time was only under 2 minutes, which then was revamped to under 3 minutes and had a charming motown vibe that can be swayed to. The lyrics are catered to dealing with having a falling out with a certain significant other at the wrong place at the wrong time. The instruments recorded in this song were done at a cafe somewhere in the heart of Bangsar.
